TDCorp is a joint stock corporation in which all of the inhabitants of the region who at the time of privatization (03/12/98) were able to prove residence to the corporation's shareholder commission are stockholders. Every inhabitant of the region received one share in TDCorp. on that day, and from that moment on are addressed as stockholders.

After the IPO, any stockholder who chose to do so could trade his/her shares in the stock exchange, and increase or decrease his/her holdings to the minimum limit of one share per stockholder. it has been established as a part of corporate regulations that when somebody ceases to hold stock in TDCorp for a period of one or more quarters, that somebody will cease to hold rights as a stockholder both inside and outside TDCorp territory.

Institutional shareholders, former members of the Federation of Otagan Industry, were given stock in proportion to their economic importance and land holdings in the former Otago region.
